I was a life-long atheist until I had a fairly cliche near-death experience on the worst night of my life. I met 'something' which was definitely the character people have mistaken for 'God'. It explained to me that humanity is a hive mind, and gave me hints at a scientific explanation for what it is and how it works. Now don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful to be alive, but I'm not the kind of guy that just accepts heaven and ghosts and all that nonsense, despite literally seeing heaven and ghosts and all that nonsense.
