Serena Bloodworthy was born into a world where Gods give power to humans. Each person is granted one power, that is, until Serena is born. She is the most powerful being born in her Kingdom since the King himself. For this very reason, she must hide who and what she is from everybody in her village.

Everything for her and her family is simple until the day it all changes. Two new commanders step into Darnish with not only news of the queen's death, but the King has set trials for every village to compete in. Five women from each village must travel throughout the deadly Kingdom to make it to the palace. The problem? Serena must travel with people from Darnish whom she has hidden her entire life from.
