first love//first death is a grief centered poetry collection centered around author Mara Luar losing their first love to teen suicide. In their debut book, Mara Luar illuminates the complexities of being in a codependent relationship with a suicidal partner while also being a teenager with severe mental health issues themselves.

In a series of poems illuminating vulnerable thoughts, sometimes troubling confessions, and conflicting reflections, Mara Luar presents a story of their relationship from the beginning to his death and then years forward, where the aftermath of his death still impacted new relationships and attempts at love after their traumatic partner loss.
