Cassie sees the world pass by her from the New York bookstore where she works until an elderly customer gives her a mysterious book before he dies. It contains an intriguing message: if you hold this book, a door will open. It does not take long for her to discover its special power and to learn that there are other books that can do amazing or terrifying things. Suddenly, Cassie and her best friend, Izzy, find themselves in a violent, dangerous situation. The only person who can save them is Drummond Fox, a man who takes care of a secret library of magic books and battles his own demons.
