ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Dying is as hard as it is inevitable. Even for the ones who stay behind.

The first time I had to wipe my dad's butt, I told myself it was just like when I did it for my son: come on, Carmen, it's the same; you’ve got this, Carmen, he's your dad; c'mon, girl, that man used to clean your butt too.

I kept saying it to myself like someone psyching up for a sprint to launch into a jump.

It’s the same, Carmen. Just do it.

But it’s not. It’s not the same.

If Pedro Simón were a baker, we’d say the sourdough starter of his novels is family relationships. A seemingly simple and abundant ingredient, but absolutely essential in the history of literature.

After winning the Primavera Novel Prize with Los ingratos, a story that moved tens of thousands of readers, he went straight for the heart again with Los incomprendidos. And before we’ve even had a chance to catch our breath, he hits us with his toughest—and most universal—novel yet: how do the members of a family face the inevitable decline and death of their elders?
