CU Medical: “What Are GMOs, Really?”

The Office of Research Education at the CU School of Medicine is pleased to continue its 2026 partnership with Tattered Cover Book Store with a community presentation, “What Are GMOs, Really?”, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Kaia Kinkel, PhD candidate, and Dr. Charles Sagerstrom, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, are both members of the Cell Biology, Stem Cells, and Development PhD Program and will lead an engaging and accessible discussion to explore what genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are, how they're used in medicine, agriculture, and scientific research, and why they're such powerful tools for understanding how life develops.

They’ll separate fact from fiction by addressing some of the most common misconceptions about GMOs, answer your questions, and dive into the fascinating science behind one of today's most widely discussed technologies. Whether you're learning about GMOs for the first time or have experience working with them, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of what GMOs are, what they aren't, and why they play such a large role in our research and everyday life.

The event will take place at Tattered Cover Book Store (2526 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO) and begins at 6:00 p.m.
