ABOUT Stephen Bramucci
Stephen is an award-winning travel writer and adventurer. He's rowed down the Mekong Delta (a story anthologized in the collection I Learned Kung Fu from a Bear Cub), crossed the Australian outback in a car powered by French fry oil, and explored ancient pirate islands and attempted to rescue a giant turtle in Madagascar (for a piece which won him the Trazzler 10K Writer’s Prize). His work has appeared in USA Today, AFAR, Outside magazine, The Huffington Post, MadeMan.com, OC Register magazine, and dozens of other online and print outlets. He also created the series, How I Travel for BootsNAll.com, interviewing Anthony Bourdain and other travel luminaries. A lifelong animal lover, Stephen’s encounters with endangered species often come up in his classroom presentations. When he’s not on the road, Stephen visits schools to share stories and folklore that he’s collected abroad along with original tales of scalawags, swashbucklers, and rogues. The Danger Gang and the Pirates of Borneo! is Stephen's first novel. He lives in Los Angeles, California. Visit him online: @SteveBram.
ABOUT THE BOOK: The Danger Gang and the Pirates of Borneo!
Ronald Zupan is a daring master adventurer! But he actually hasn’t experienced any grand adventures... YET! When his world-traveling parents are kidnapped on his twelfth birthday, Ronald seizes the chance to prove himself with a dazzling, danger-defying rescue operation. Teaming up with his trusty butler Jeeves, his quick-witted fencing nemesis Julianne Sato, and his pet cobra, Carter, Ronald sets course for the jungle of Borneo where his parents were last sighted. If they can crash-land a plane and outrun a hungry snow leopard, surely they can find the secret lair of Zeetan Z, the world’s most ruthless pirate! But as their adventure becomes more and more dangerous, can Ronald and his companions muster enough courage to see this adventure through?
"Readers everywhere will devour the hilarious, action-packed adventures of Ronald Zupan." — Matt de la Peña, Newbery Award-winning author of Last Stop on Market Street
"A fast-paced, comic update of a classic swashbuckler!" — Mac Barnett, co-author of The Terrible Two series
“Adventure, suspense, humor and heart! I loved reading about Ronald and his brave friends!” — Varian Johnson, author of The Great Greene Heist and To Catch A Cheat
LENGTH & TOPIC OF PRESENTATION
45 minutes. After traveling the world many times over, walking into the Australian outback with no food or water, surfing uncharted waves in Namibia, and floating his car across a crocodile-infested river in Mozambique, Steve knows a few things about adventure. In this keynote, he talks about how he viewed adventure as a kid, his own wildest travel stories, and shares how those two elements impact his writing. For Steve, writing about adventure is a chance to celebrate the joy that he finds in living, and he loves to share that message with students.
