Patrick Rothfuss
I love your books.
There are meanings, and other things, out there that people have tried for lifetimes to confine to words. Love is often one of these. At best, masters manage to capture a snapshot, the briefest piece of fleeting meaning, and even that is enough to move us to tears. Your writing is an album of these snapshots. You dare to capture that which cannot be said in words...through words. Many, many words (your books are very long).
Your books do not contain the most creative fantasy worlds. Nor do they have the most unique characters. And certainly they don't have the most engaging plot. But they are the best. Definitively. For me, at least. There is magic captured within these pages that I don't have the ability to describe. And even if I asked Elodin to do it, I probably wouldn't have the ability to properly listen.
There is little in life I love more than feeling. By feeling, I mean all that can be felt. The taste of fresh grapes in the shade with a warm breeze on your skin. The smile of a friend as you commit to foolishness. Stepping to the very edge, because how better to fear the fall?
I have found no books better at inspiring me to feel.
Thank you,
Andy Hester
