MICHAEL GADLIN - Contemporary Mixed Media Artist

BIOGRAPHY: Born in Denver, Colorado, Michael studied drawing and painting at the Art Students League of Denver as a youth with renowned abstract painters Dale Chisman and Quang Ho. He would later attended Pratt Institute in New York after graduating from East High School. He focused his discipline on drawing and painting fundamentals and later emphasized his studies on abstract and contemporary concepts in art. Exhibiting in select galleries, museums and institutions worldwide, Michael has been commissioned by governments, Fortune 100 corporations and private collectors, and has been exuberantly heralded in the press. Michael received a three month artist-in-residence through La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF), in the south of France, given out only once a year. Most proudly the Vance Kirkland Museum has acquired a work as part of their permanent collection. Through public and private funds, including Denver’s Urban Arts Fund (DUAF), Michael’s well-received public art installations, murals and commissions hang permanently throughout the city and beyond, including District 2 Police Station, Denver’s River North Pathway, Westlake Middle School, East High School, just to name a few. In 1999 Michael was the youngest artist ever to win Best of Show at Denver’s nationally renowned Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Currently Michael has been included in several museum exhibitions and Biennials.

Michael is Tattered Cover's first local artist, helping to launch our Local Art Consignment Program and bring artwork into our stores!  Enjoy his mixed media pieces at our Colfax location.

“Today's art has a freer hand. Fair to say Gadlin is less concerned with precision and more with fervor and provocation. Surely, there is structure to the madness. Gadlin happens to be talented at drawing, so his lines are amazingly straight and impeccably spaced when he wants them to be. There are no certain objects in the pieces, though his curves and shapes are clearly influenced by figurative skills. They are sensual and, at the same time, art-historical, with subconscious nods to pictorial traditions.“
