Tattered Cover is please to host the Front Range Community College (FRCC) Writing Club at our Westminster location on April 27th at 5:00pm. They will be celebrating the release of Howl Volume 8. The event is free to the public and no ticket is required for entry.
The Front Range Community College (FRCC) Writing Club will be hosting the release of Howl Volume 8, the FRCC Westminster campus' nationally recognized literary magazine featuring student writing and art. The magazine accepts submissions from FRCC students and is created by the Writing Club whose members serve as volunteer student editors with student graphic designers that design the magazine's layout. Our motto is "for students by students." Funding is graciously provided by FRCC Administration. Copies of the magazine are free, and students will be reading their work featured in the issue.
Howl is sponsored by the FRCC, Westminster Campus English and Communication department. It is an interdisciplinary, campus-wide journal highlighting students’ writing that emerges in the course of their college learning as well as from their individually motivated explorations. The publication’s name, Howl, was conceived to do multiple honors. First, it is a nod to our school’s mascot, the gray wolf. Likewise, the voices of our students, who have a lot to say when they howl about the beauty, comedy, and tragedy of life. Finally, the great American poet, Allen Ginsberg (long a Colorado local), whose breakout poem “Howl” was a clarion call to other young writers to live and write passionately.
The FRCC Writing Club is a place for creatives to gather and share in the craft of writing. We offer an inclusive and friendly space to engage in writing prompts, share and workshop ideas, and discuss the writing of all genres composed by fellow creatives. The Writing Club hosts several annual events including open mic readings in collaboration with the FRCC Boulder County Campus, author panels in cooperation with the Westminster Public Library and Student Life, College-Wide Writing Workshops, and more. The Writing Club is sponsored by FRCC Student Life.
