Emily Wortman-Wunder & Ashley Wurzbacher

Short Story Readings & Signings

Local author Emily Wortman-Wunder has been published in the Kenyon Review, High Country News, and more. Wortman-Wunder will discuss and sign Not a Thing to Comfort You ($17.00 University Of Iowa Press). The glimmering stories in this debut collection explore how nature worms its way into our lives. Here moths steal babies, a creek seduces a lonely suburban mother, and the priorities of a passionate conservationist are thrown into confusion after the death of her son. These tales catalog the loneliness within families, betrayals between friends, and the recurring song of regret and grief.

Author Ashley Wurzbacher’s writing has appeared in the Iowa ReviewColorado Review, and more. Wurzbacher will discuss and sign Happy Like This ($17.00 University Of Iowa Press). The characters in this book are smart girls and professional women who search for happiness in roles and relationships that are often unscripted or unconventional. Spanning a wide range of distinct perspectives, voices, styles, and settings, these ten stories offer deeply felt, often humorous meditations on the complexity of choice and the ambiguity of happiness.

Both books are winners of the Iowa Short Fiction Award.
