All-Star Game Event: Get a Grip (Saturday, In-Person)

Please note: this event is for the Saturday, July 10 panel.

Though it may seem so, the 2021 MLB season isn’t just about Spider Tack and umpires inspecting pitchers for such illegal substances. Baseball is back to normal, which means it’s once again unbelievably strange and strangely unbelievable. A panel of baseball experts will examine the game at the halfway point, and try to explain why there are so many strikeouts and no-hitters (10), a potential Triple Crown winner (Vladimir Guerrero Jr.), a throwback to Babe Ruth (Shohei Ohtani) and a 76-year-old manager (Tony LaRussa) who has a team he first managed in 1979 in first place.

The panel will also look back at the shortened 2020 season; and look ahead to what may happen as the rest of 2021 unfolds. Doing all this be Tyler Kepner of The New York Times, Jayson Stark of The Athletic, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal, Buster Olney of ESPN, Dan Schlossberg (author of The New Baseball Bible), Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs and a host of others.

This is an in-person event that will not be live streamed. The event is at our new location at McGregor Square. Please arrive early as the event starts promptly at 5:15pm MT.

(Listed authors will appear EITHER on Saturday or Sunday; and will be available immediately following the session to sign their latest book).
