Vincent Blyden is a presswork and bindery professor at Florida A&M University, where he has taught for the past 35 years. He teaches courses in graphic arts introductory, presswork, camerawork, book production, stripping, platemaking, continuous tone photography, typesetting, desktop publishing, color separation and digital prepress. He was previously an offset press operator with Hewlett Packard Medi*cal Electronics Division in Waltham, Massachusetts from 1974 until 1975, The St. Petersburg Times as a letterpress proofer in 1972 and with the Home Journal newspaper in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in from 1967 until 1971, where he operated the newsprint web offset press. Blyden also has experience in layout, typesetting, paste-up, camera work, desktop publishing, stripping, typesetting and platemaking. He was a staff photographer for the Home Journal newspaper in St. Thomas, Virgin Is*lands. He is also a production specialist at Florida A&M where he produces programs, applications and other printed matter. Blyden served as a national judge in the 1996 Flexographic best of Show Awards in Ronkonkoma, New York. The show featured flexo package prints from 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico, Japan and England. Blyden earned a B.S. in graphic arts technology and a M. S. in vocational education, both from Florida A&M University. He has been constantly at*tending graphic arts workshops and seminars and being updated in digital prepress equipment, processes and techniques. He also received certification in composition and digital prepress from GATF in 2003. He is a member of GATF, Epsilon Pa Tau Fraternity, The Flexographic Technical Foundation, the Gravure Association of American and Phi Delta Kappa, and a professional education fraternity. Blyden is the author of Book Design and Manufacture. The book was published by the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation in 1987. He also published Graphic Communication Activities Handbook and Book Assembly and Design.
