To Kneel and Kiss the Earth: Inspiration from the Soul Artist Journal (Paperback)
For nearly five years, the Soul Artist Journal, a weekly e-column/blog by healer and award-winning author L.R. Heartsong, explored the art of living a meaningful connected existence, celebrating "a life for the senses." Though the posts were diverse, the underlying theme was always, how do we nourish the soul?
To Kneel and Kiss the Earth is the first compilation volume, a gathering of posts selected from the archives and twenty-plus categories, spanning the Journal's arc of existence. Easily accessible, these heart-full writings praise the ordinary sacred and offer inspiration for one's daily journey.
Fans and subscribers of the Soul Artist Journal, as well as new readers discovering Heartsong's work, will delight in this offering of lyrical prose in praise of nature, soul, and intimate relationship with Earth. With a gently luminous heart, here is a timely and welcome nod toward the re-enchantment of everyday life.
About the Author
L.R. Heartsong is “a healer who writes.” A bodyworker and counselor for more than twenty-five years, he fuses eco-depth psychology, soul-based coaching, shamanic work, and spiritual guidance. Author of The Bones and Breath: A Man's Guide to Eros, the Sacred Masculine, and the Wild Soul, he is also a Paris-trained chef. Returning to the States after an extended period of living in Europe, for nearly five years he penned the Soul Artist Journal, a weekly e-column/blog—the archives of which form the basis for his newly released book, To Kneel and Kiss the Earth: Inspiration from the Soul Artist Journal. Currently he writes TendingSacred, a monthly exploration of a healer’s path, and is working on a memoir of this reluctant mystic's time living in England. Interviews with him include the award-winning Conversations Radio with Michael Stone, who speaks with thought leaders and social visionaries in areas of environmental restoration, evolutionary cosmology, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment. He has also been a featured presenter in multiple, global online symposiums featuring change-making influencers (scientists, shamans, mystics, psychologists, healers, and more) offering their insight, guidance, and personal expertise, all stitching us to a deeper connection with self, healing, and the 'more-than-human' world. “I’ve been reading your archives. Weeks ago, I’d meant to begin reading – one or two every now and then, I’d thought, but rather I’ve found myself reading and re-reading everything I could find. You are an amazing creature. Of all the things we’ve piled up for ‘someday’, perhaps first on my own list is to speak to you at length about your writing and to encourage you to publish further. More widely. Bravissimo, you are… "—Marlena de Blasi, internationally bestselling author of

“For several years, L.R. Heartsong’s Soul Artist Journal landed gracefully in my in-box once a week. I was an avid reader, admiring his calm and lyrical voice, knowing I would be given a connection with the everyday sacred: bare feet on earth, a grandmother tree outside his door, a lit candle, a fragrant soup, a hike in the mountains, the soul of cooking. This was mixed with a wry, searching mind, soulful melancholy, refreshing honesty, deep connection to spirit, and candid self-reflection. Always a varied and luscious feast! After reading, I emerged more engaged with life, slower, more careful, less distracted. Thank you, River, for bringing together some of these kernels into a book. They are needed in the world.”—Carolyn Brigit Flynn, author of Communion: In Praise of the Sacred Earth, editor of Sisters Singing: Blessings, Prayers, Art, Songs, Poetry & Sacred Stories by Women
“River is a brilliant writer who shares deep and important life wisdom with his readers.”—Michael Stone, award-winning Conversations Radio (arewelistening.net)
“River's writing is exquisitely crafted. His poetic words will awaken in you a new way of seeing our world, and inspire you to renew your connection with the Earth. These writings are a treasure that you'll return to again & again.”—Jocelyn Mercado, founder of Sacred Planet
“To discover L.R. Heartsong’s writing is to dip your feet into a pristine spring-fed stream that takes your breath away. His eloquent writing, his love of Gaia, his healing words are a balm to a world that has forgotten how to connect to the deep, the sacred, the pureness of our core essence as part of the Sacred Whole. Thank you, beautiful friend, for continuing to flow with your stunning words and work!”—Mare Cromwell, author of The Great Mother Bible, also

"Want a great book to read to wake your soul up? This book is that. Reading it gets me present to the infinite possibility that we are all in this together: people, animals, plants, bugs... all living on this planet. I got it -- like really got it -- that it is in softness and stillness that we can see our connection. The format of the book is wonderful. Small bites. Easily digestable. Quickly inspired. And smile of enlightenment accomplished. My favorite line in this book is 'evolution always happens at the fringes, and the 'edge dwellers' are the ones deeply attuned to the environment in which we breathe, grow, make love and dream.' LR Heartsong has a way with words that takes me into the spirit world and another plane of existence... this book is a beautiful work of poetic expression. P.S. If you like David Whyte, you'll love this book...” —John Wayne Zimmerman, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Facebook Marketing
