Visiting Author for Schools: Heather Preusser
DATE OF SCHOOL VISIT
She's flexible! Evening appearances are better as she teaches full-time, although daytime works, too.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Heather Preusser has 13 years of teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels and is currently teaching 9th grade English. She double majored in English and art history at Williams College, earned an M.A. in secondary English instruction and curriculum from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and received an M.F.A. in creative writing through the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program. Her debut picture book, A Symphony of Cowbells, just came out. When she’s not teaching, reading or writing, Heather enjoys telemark skiing, rock climbing and learning ridiculously long German words, such as Formfleischvorderschinken.
ABOUT THE BOOK: A Symphony of Cowbells
Petra just loves spring in Gimmelwald. Each season she and her family lead their prize dairy cows into the pastures to graze and each cow wears her own jingling, jangling, clanging bell. What a symphony! But when Petra's favorite cow, Elfi, loses her bell the whole herd is out of harmony and refuses to move. Will Petra be able to find Elfi's bell before it's too late? With charming illustrations, this whimsical story is sure to delight children and adults alike.
LENGTH & TOPIC OF PRESENTATION
About 30 minutes. Heather will be her book, do a Q&A, then go on a "trip" with the students with cowbells.
SCHOOL TYPE & GRADES
Elementary School, grades K-2; evening appearances are better as she works full-time.
DESIRED # OF STUDENTS
Classroom-sized up to a whol grade.
Heather will need a chair for the reading; and, based on the number of students you think you'll have, she may need a projector, projector screen, and microphone so she can read from a PDF of the book on the screen. If it will only be a small crowd, she'll just read from a copy of the book. And a bottle of water.
Tattered Cover will design an order form that the school should distribute in advance of the author visit, and again on the day of the event to all student attendees.
