Testimonial:
I
would like to take the opportunity to thank you and your
staff, especially Chuck Rugh and your resident IT expert Mike, for the
fantastic experience I have had publishing my first novel through
Tattered Cover Press. I can't begin to cover the many ways that both
Chuck and Mike helped me to bring my book, Viene La Tormenta, to fruition. And the product is superb.
I
have had many compliments on the format, the paper stock, the binding,
and the overall look of the finished product. Additionally, it was an
extra bonus to be able to print a small number of copies for the first
printing, so that I could proof an actual book for any final, pesky
typos.
I highly recommend Tattered Cover Press to anyone who is
considering publishing their own work, and who would want the very best
outcome of that effort.
~S. C. Thompson, author of Viene La Tormenta

I
am an independent partner publisher. Many of my authors are speakers
and work with large corporations who order books in bulk. One of my
authors had a major bookselling opportunity that happened unexpectedly.
Because my usual print-on-demand printer has very set parameters on time
frames, I knew that I would not be able to use them for this print job.
Wednesday morning, I woke up in a panic. My author needed books, I
didn't have a back-up plan, but I needed books to ship Thursday at the
latest so that my author would have them the next Monday for her
meeting. I called a quick turn around printer. The could do the print
job, but it would take 48 hours and I would have to ship 100 books
overnight. My author didn't want to bear the over $300 shipping cost.
Then I remembered. Tattered Cover has an Espresso Book Machine (EBM)!
Maybe they could print books that day, Wednesday, and I could ship 3-day
ground.
I called the EBM team at 10 am. I told them what I
needed. They told me they could print 50 to 60 books by the end of the
day if I got my order in quick. The price per book was only ten cents
more per book than the other printer. I think I have a solution, but my
author was concerned about the quality of the book. I emailed TC the
cover and the interior files I already had prepared. Chuck, the EBM
specialist, said that they were fine. All he had to do was one minor
adjustment to the pdf. I told Chuck to print one book and I would drive
down and check it. It's 10:45 a.m. Of course there was heavy traffic on
1-25. I needed to get to FedEx by 5:00 pm. The machine prints about 10
books an hour. The race was on.
11:30. I finally got to the
Tattered Cover. Chuck was waiting for me, smiling. He held up the sample
book. It was great! The colors on the cover were vibrant, the text
clear. The interior was on a nice, 50# crème paper and the print quality
was crisp—thank heavens for laser technology.
I called my
author, told her that the books not only looked fine, they were
definitely on par quality-wise with the other quick turn-around printer I
had called earlier that morning.
The EBM crew at the Tattered
Cover got my books printed. We shipped 50 on Wednesday and another batch
of 40 on Thursday. My author will have her books for her major meeting
on Monday, books she can be proud of.
The Espresso Book Machine,
I think, is going to become a major player in the publishing industry
in years to come. It has many uses, but I will forever be grateful to
the TC, to John Zeck, and to Chuck for helping me make it go right for
my client. You guys rock!
