Love Letters to Authors - Jeff Zentner
Like a Song
To say I've been a devoted, passionate fan of a certain band since the mid-80s would be an understatement. Few bands come close in my world. This band has shaped me outwardly, of course; but internally as well. They are a part of my identity.
Fairly recently, a new band emerged with a sound incomparable. I was immediately taken. They rose instantaneously to the top of my All-Time Best Bands List. How is that possible? They haven't had time to prove themselves? There's no room, no space to rent in this town. Yet, their sound envelopes me; the music integrated into my being. I didn't know I was capable.
I'm a passionate, avid reader. I most enjoy reading young adult novels these days. I've read many and consider myself on the pulse of this genre. Enter a new YA author, and like that recent band, this author has me instantly captivated. His debut novel was the best book I read in 2015. The 2016 slot is his, too, with his second book, to be released in 2017. What is it about this author? His stories? His storytelling? His characters? He identifies and coagulates those seemingly random thoughts that become the threads of what moves us forward in life. What tears us apart. He nails them. In his writing, you can palpably feel the internal struggles, fear, anxieties, angst, anger swirling within. He identifies and captures those feelings. And you feel them.
Jeff Zentner: Thank you for sharing your lyrics with the world. Please, don't stop writing. I will follow.
