Tesoro Cultural Lecture

Historic LoDo: Yale scholar Andrew Offenburger will present a lecture entitled “Viva los Boers!: From South Africa to the U.S.Mexican Borderlands, 1902-1917.”
Andrew Offenburger is a Ph.D. Candidate in U.S. history at Yale University. His dissertation investigates the relationship between capitalist development and cultural imperialism in the U.S.-Mexican borderlands between 1880 and 1940. Before entering the Ph.D. program, Offenburger completed a Master's degree in African studies at Yale and wrote a thesis on an anti-colonial prophetic movement called the "Xhosa Cattle Killing" along South Africa's Eastern Cape frontier in the 1850s. Offenburger also leads the editorial board of a quarterly, academic journal, Safundi: The Journal of South African and American Studies.
