Rosetta Society Presentation

February 4, 2010 - 7:30pm
Historic LoDo: Music Director Scott O’Neil will present a preview of the Rosetta Music Society’s second interactive concert of the 2009-2010 season, Arnold Schoenberg’s string sextet Transfigured Night (Verklaerte Nacht).O’Neil’s presentation will explore Schoenberg’s final ueber-Romantic act of the 19th century, which tells the story of Richard Dehmel’s poem by the same title, in which a husband and wife walk together in the woods, the wife carrying the unborn child of a secret love affair. In fear and torment she reveals her secret, and Schoenberg’s sextet grows glorious as one hears the moment of a husband’s forgiveness and his unconditional love for both woman and child. Join the discussion of Schoenberg’s final display of romance before his journey into atonality and serialism, and learn how poetry and literature have influenced orchestral composers and their music. The Rosetta Music Society concert will be held at the Englewood Arts Center on Sunday, February 7, at 2:00 pm. Visit www.englewoodarts.org or call 303-806-8196 for concert information.
