Colfax Avenue: With a background in cultural anthropology and ESL-teaching, award-winning author Laura Resau has lived and traveled in Latin America and Europe—experiences that inspired her books for young people. Her latest YA novel, The Queen of Water (written with María Virginia Farinango) has received a starred review in Kirkus and her previous novels, which include The Jade Notebook and The Ruby Notebook—are acclaimed for their sensitive treatment of immigration issues. Her books have garnered the IRA YA Fiction Award, the Américas Award, and placement on Oprah's Kids' Book List. Resau donates a portion of her royalties to indigenous rights organizations in Latin America.
