Sie FilmCenter/Colfax Join the Tattered Cover Book Store, UCD’s College of Arts & Media, KUNC 91.5, and the Sie FilmCenter (in the Lowenstein CulturePlex, next door to the Tattered Cover Colfax Avenue) for an exploration of the world of classic movies, hosted by film critic Howie Movshovitz. All programs begin at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $1.00, and are available one hour before the screening from the box office. Parking is avilable in the parking lot off of Elizabeth or Columbine Streets. This month we’ll see the 1960 Mikio Naruse classic When a Woman Ascends the Stairs. A woman in postwar Japan tries to forge an independent life for herself. She’s a barmaid who entertains men after hours. She’s played magnificently by Hideko Takamine. Naruse is less well-known in this country than Kurosawa and Ozu. He was a wonderful filmmaker and some call this his greatest work.
