Colfax Avenue: Ben Fountain, the PEN/Hemingway Award-winning author of the critically acclaimed short story collection Brief Encounters with Che Guevara, will discuss and sign his debut novel Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (HarperCollins). Karl Marlantes called this book “The Catch-22 of the Iraq War.” A razor sharp satire set in Texas, it explores the gaping national disconnect between the war at home and the war abroad. “As close to the Great American Novel as anyone is likely to come these days—an extraordinary work that captures and releases the unquiet spirit of our age, and will probably be remembered as one of the important books of this decade.” —Madison Smartt Bell Can’t make it to the signing? Historic LoDo: Publishers Mark Stevens and Mike Keefe will present The Asphalt Warrior (Running Meter Press), the first of ten comic novels by the late Gary Reilly featuring Denver cab driver Brendan Murphy, a.k.a. “Murph.” All the Murph novels are set in the Denver area and follow Murph to The Brown Palace, DIA, along East Colfax Avenue, and all around the local neighborhoods. Murph is not only a likable cabbie, he’s a tour guide to life who sees and savors the small things, and wonders about the big questions. The next volume, Ticket to Hollywood will be released this fall. Can’t make it to the signing? Request an autographed copy here: books@tatteredcover.com
