Historic LoDo: Jack Turner, the grandson of Ansel Hall, who served as chief naturalist for the National Park Service during the great depression, will offer a PowerPoint presentation and sign his book Landscapes on Glass: Lantern Slides for the Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition ($19.95 Durango Herald Small Press). The story of what has been called the last great expedition in the American West, Landscapes on Glass is lavishly illustrated with the hand-tinted photographs Ansel Hall used in his fundraising talks to continue to finance the expedition. Turner’s book is a tribute to the man, the expedition, and the remote pinnacles and canyons of northern Arizona and southern Utah that they sought to protect.
