Start: 12:00 pm
Historic LoDo: The Tattered Cover and the Denver Center Theatre Company have joined forces to produce a new community event series called DCTC @ the TC. All events are free and open to the public, no reservations are required. Please join us! The first three shows playing at the Denver Center this season are all adaptations, either from a novel (Dracula, The House of the Spirits) or a film (The 39 Steps). At our first DCTC @ the TC event, Literary Manager Douglas Langworthy will examine the art of adapting works for the stage, using these three plays as examples. Come and find out why the Charles Morey adaptation of Dracula was selected over several others, what Isabel Allende thinks about playwright Caridad Svich’s adaptation of her novel The House of the Spirits, and whether this retelling of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps using a mere four actors is a send-up or an homage. Visit the Denver Center Theatre Company website.
Start: 7:30 pm
Highlands Ranch: Joelle Charbonneau will read from and sign her debut mystery novel Skating Around the Law ($24.99 St. Martin’s). Rebecca Robbins is a woman on a mission—to sell the roller rink she inherited from her mother and get back to Chicago. However, when she discovers the dead body of the town’s handyman headfirst in a rink toilet, potential buyers are scared off. Now Rebecca is stuck in a small town where her former neighbors think she doesn’t belong, living with her frisky grandfather, Pop, and relying on a police department that’s better at gardening than solving crimes. Rebecca begins investigating the murder herself, and mysterious threats will have her questioning whether playing sleuth was such a good idea after all. Request a signed copy: books@tatteredcover.com

This event has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience. Historic LoDo: Peter Thomas, founder and chairman of Century 21 Real Estate Canada Ltd., and developer of the Four Seasons Resort and Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona, will discuss and sign his new book Be Great: The Five Foundations of an Extraordinary Life, in Business and Beyond ($19.95 Franklin Green). Cars have operating instructions, as do Blackberry devices and even blenders; and now, you have your own life manual that will lead you step-by-step to a life filled with joy, passion and success. For every copy of Be Great sold, Thomas will donate a portion of the proceeds to charity. Request a signed copy: books@tatteredcover.com
