David Weber - Out of the Dark
Start: 7:30 pm
Highlands Ranch: David Weber is the author of the New York Times bestselling Honor Harrington novels. Solo and in collaboration, he is one of the major writers of science fiction in America today. Weber will read from and sign Out of the Dark ($25.99 Tor), the first novel in a stunning new military-SF series. Earth is conquered. The Shongairi have arrived in force, and humanity’s cities lie in radioactive ruins. In mere minutes, over half the human race has died. The aliens have definitely underestimated human tenacity—but no amount of heroism can endlessly hold off overwhelming force. Then, emerging from the mountains and forests of Eastern Europe, new allies present themselves to the ragtag human resistance. Predators, creatures of the night, human in form but inhumanly strong. Long enemies of humanity…until now. Because now is the time to defend Earth. Request a signed copy: books@tatteredcover.com
Sara Gruen - Ape House
Start: 7:30 pm
Historic LoDo: Sara Gruen, the master storyteller behind the bestselling novel Water for Elephants, will read from and sign her wonderful new novel Ape House ($26.00 Random House). “Sara Gruen knows things—she knows them in her mind and in her heart. And, out of what she knows, she has created a true thriller that is addictive from its opening sentence. Devour it to find out what happens next, but also to learn remarkable and moving things about life on this planet. Very, very few novels can change the way you look at the world around you. This one does.” —Robert Goolrick, author of A Reliable Wife Visit Sara Gruen’s website. Request a signed copy: books@tatteredcover.com
Daniel Schultz - Changing the Script
Start: 7:30 pm
Colfax Avenue: Daniel Schultz, a pastor in the United Church of Christ and co-founder of the blog Street Prophets, where he writes as “pastordan,” will discuss and sign his new book Changing the Script: An Authentically Faithful and Authentically Progressive Political Theology for the 21st Century ($15.95 Ig). In his book, Schultz, one of the leading progressive religious voices in America today, builds upon the insights of Old Testament scholar and theologian Walter Brueggemann to identify five “scripts” that exercise unseen power in our society: the therapeutic, technological, consumerist, militarist, and conformist. Confronting each of these scripts and the actions of both the Right and the Left that have allowed them to take root in our culture, Schultz voices a perspective that shows what an authentically progressive and authentically faithful religious ideal would truly look like.
