Highlands Ranch: This event has been cancelled. Julie Aigner Clark is a mom, a writer, and a teacher who has survived breast cancer twice. As the founder of the Baby Einstein Company and the Safe Side, Julie has been writing books and creating media for children since 1997 and has sold millions of copies worldwide. She will read from and sign her new book You Are the Best Medicine ($16.99 HarperCollins), a sweet and poignant story that reminds us how children can nurture their mommies at a time when optimism and love are most needed. Julie is proud to direct her portion of the proceeds from this book to UCLA’s JonssonComprehensiveCancerCenter because of its pioneering role in developing life-saving cancer treatments.
Start: 7:00 pm
Starz FilmCenter: Join the Tattered Cover Book Store, UCD’s College of Arts & Media, Colorado Public Radio, and the Starz FilmCenter for an exploration of the world of classic movies, hosted by Colorado Public Radio film critic Howie Movshovitz at the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli. All programs begin at 7:00 pm at the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli. Admission is free, but tickets are required from the box office. Tickets are available one hour before screening. Validated parking is avilable in the parking lot directly in front of the Tivoli. This month we’ll see 1950 Jean-Pierre Melville classic Les Enfants Terribles. Melville (Bob le Flambeur, Le Samouraï) is currently a very hip director and has always been admired by the French new wave filmmakers. This film is based on a novel by Jean Cocteau about two adolescents who detach themselves from the adult world with mystery games that ultimately lead to a bad end. With Nicole Stéphane and Edouard Dermithe. (100 minutes) For information on the Starz FilmCenter go to starzfilmcenter.com For a PDF of our Tattered Cover Film Series flyer, please click Tattered Cover Film Series flyer.
Start: 7:00 pm
Historic LoDo: Colorado Public Radio (CPR) joins us in presenting Michele Norris, the acclaimed host of NPR’s All Things Considered. Norris will discuss and sign her new book The Grace of Silence: A Memoir ($24.95 Pantheon). In the wake of talk of a “postracial” America upon Barack Obama’s ascension as president of the United States, Michele Norris set out to write, through original reporting, a book about “the hidden conversation” on race that is unfolding nationwide. Extraordinary for Norris’s candor in examining her own racial legacy and what it means to be an American, The Grace of Silence is also informed by rigorous research in its evocation of time and place, scores of interviews with ordinary folk, and wise observations about evolving attitudes, at once encouraging and disturbing, toward race in America today. Ryan Warner, host of CPR’s Colorado Matters, will moderate this event. Free numbered tickets for the booksigning line will be handed out beginning at 6:00 pm. Seating for the presentation prior to the booksigning is limited, and available on a first-come, first-served basis to ticketed customers only. Visit Michele Norris’ bio-page on the NPR website.
