Start: 7:30 pm
Highlands Ranch: Local author Polly Letofsky will discuss and sign her new book 3 MPH: The Adventures of One Woman’s Walk Around the World ($19.95 Tendril Press). On August 1, 1999, Letofsky left her home in Vail, Colorado, and headed west. She traveled across 4 continents, 22 countries, and over 14,000 miles—by foot—to become the first American woman to walk around the world. As an awareness campaign for breast cancer, survivors and well-wishers around the world came out to walk with her. Every day, strangers welcomed her into their homes and shared meals. Sometimes serious, sometimes funny, always inspirational, Polly’s story personifies the spirit of commitment and perseverance that will compel readers to conquer life’s challenges—one step at a time. Historic LoDo: William Gibson, “one of the most visionary, original, and quietly influential writers currently working” (The Boston Globe), is the author of the bestselling books Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive, Idoru, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Pattern Recognition, and Spook Country, among others. Gibson will discuss and sign his new book Zero History ($26.95 Putnam), another look at a dystopian world, strangely similar to our own, featuring many of the characters from Spook Country. Free numbered tickets for a place in the booksigning line will be available at 6:30 pm. Seating for the presentation prior to the booksigning is limited, and available on a first-come, first-served basis to ticketed customers only.

Colfax Avenue: Jennifer Arnold, the founder and executive director of Canine Assistants, a service-dog school based in Milton, Georgia, will discuss and sign her new book Through a Dog’s Eyes: Understanding Our Dogs by Understanding How They See the World ($25.00 Spiegel & Grau). Few people are more qualified to speak about the abilities and potential of dogs than Jennifer Arnold, who for the past twenty years has trained service dogs for people with physical disabilities and special needs. Arnold has developed a unique understanding of dogs’ capabilities, intelligence, sensitivity, and extra-sensory skills, and her book is a stirring, inspiring story, with the power to change the way we understand and communicate with our dogs.
