Colfax Avenue: Nikki Grimes is the prolific and award-winning author of more than fifty books. A Coretta Scott King Award winner and recipient of the 2006 NCTE Award for Excellence in Children’s Poetry, many of her titles have been cited as Notable Books by the American Library Association. Grimes, whose books include Dark Sons, Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope, and Voices of Christmas, will discuss and sign her new book for young readers A Girl Named Mister ($15.99 ZonderKidz), the story of a teenage girl who honestly and poignantly tells her tale of temptation and teenage pregnancy through free verse, and who finds support and forgiveness from God through a book of poetry presented from the Virgin Mary’s perspective.

Highlands Ranch: Editor Jeff Deck, founder of TEAL (the Typo Eradication Advancement League), and league member Benjamin Herson, will discuss and sign their new book The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing the World, One Correction at a Time ($23.99 Crown). Armed with markers, chalk, and correction fluid, Jeff and Benjamin circumnavigated America, righting the glaring errors displayed in grocery stores, museums, malls, restaurants, mini-golf courses, beaches, and even a national park (which turned out to be a mistake!). Beneath all the misspelled words and mislaid apostrophes, the friends unearthed deeper dilemmas about education, race, history, and how we communicate. Ultimately, their typo-hunting journey tells a larger story not just of proper punctuation but of the power of language and literacy—and the importance of always taking a second look.
