Lowenstein CulturePlex, Colfax Avenue: The Second Annual Local Flavor Festival will take place at the Lowenstein CulturePlex on Colfax & Elizabeth (on the Esplanade between the Tattered Cover Colfax Avenue and Twist & Shout). Last year we had lots of fun, and this year’s event promises to be even better with more activities, awesome local retailers and food vendors, a beer tent, and live local music! The Local Flavor Festival is presented by the Mile High Business Alliance. For more information on this great family event visit www.coloradolocalfirst.com. During the Local Flavor Festival, children and families are welcome to visit the Tattered Cover for two special events. At 11:30 a.m., Tattered Cover children’s section staff members will present a storytime and activity for young children. At 1:00 p.m., Molly Culhane, a young editor and writer for New Moon Girls magazine, will offer a book talk for girls ages 8 to 12. She’ll discuss great books for starting a Mother/Daughter book club.
Start: 7:00 pm
Starz FilmCenter: Join the Tattered Cover Book Store, UCD’s College of Arts & Media, Colorado Public Radio, and the Starz FilmCenter for an exploration of the world of classic movies, hosted by Colorado Public Radio film critic Howie Movshovitz at the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli. All programs begin at 7:00 pm at the Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli. Admission is free, but tickets are required from the box office. Tickets are available one hour before screening. Validated parking is avilable in the parking lot directly in front of the Tivoli.
This month we’ll see the the 1960 Alain Resnais classic Hiroshima Mon Amour.
This is Renais’ first feature and one of the crucial films of the French new wave. An actress (Emmanuelle Riva) making a film about peace in Hiroshima, has a brief but intense affair with a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada). The film is about history, memory, forgetting and love. This script by Marguerite Duras is filmed magnificently by Sacha Vierny and Michio Takahashi. Shown in a beautiful 35mm print. (91 minutes)
