To Kill a Mockingbird 50th Anniversary Celebration
Start: 6:30 pm
Historic LoDo: Kent Thompson, artistic director of the Denver Center Theatre Company, and members of the acting company will present a reading from To Kill a Mockingbird (HarperCollins), in honor of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. This heart-wrenching, coming-of-age tale set in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than thirty million copies worldwide, served as the basis of an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country. Our anniversary celebration is part of a nationwide series of events hosted by booksellers and libraries honoring this timeless classic. Visit the Denver Center Theatre Company’s website.
Bruce Henderson - Hero Found: The Greatest POW Escape of the Vietnam War
Start: 7:30 pm
Highlands Ranch: Bruce Henderson, who served as a U.S. Navy Seventh Fleet weatherman from 1965 to 1967, is the author or coauthor of more than twenty nonfiction books, including the New York Times bestseller And the Sea Will Tell (with Vincent Bugliosi) and Down to the Sea: An Epic Story of Naval Disaster and Heroism in World War II. Henderson will discuss and sign his new book Hero Found: The Greatest POW Escape of the Vietnam War ($27.99 HarperCollins), the remarkable story of Dieter Dengler, the only pilot to escape captivity from a POW camp in the Laotian jungle during the Vietnam War, and who served with Henderson aboard the USS Ranger. Carrie Vaughn - Discord’s Apple
Start: 7:30 pm
Colfax Avenue: Colorado author Carrie Vaughn, the creator of the New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series featuring werewolf talk radio host Kitty Norville, will read from and sign her highly anticipated new stand-alone novel Discord’s Apple ($23.99 Tor). Evie Walker is the heroine of this mysterious story of a magical storeroom where wondrous treasures from myth and legend are kept safe until they are needed again. Evie must guard the storeroom against ancient and malicious forces, and at stake is the fate of the world, and the prevention of nothing less than the Apocalypse! Vaughn will also present Kitty Goes to War ($7.99 Tor), the eighth book in her Kitty Norville series. Visit Carrie Vaughn’s website. Request a signed copy: books@tatteredcover.com
