Start: 7:30 pm
Historic Lodo: Our guest panelists will present a discussion entitled “Ask an Author about Writing and Publishing.” Mario Acevedo (2009 WOTY winner) is the author of the Felix Gomez vampire private eye series; and Pamela Nowak (2009 WOTY nominee) is an award-winning historical romance writer; and Kay Bergstrom, a.k.a. Cassie Miles, (2009 WOTY nominee) is a popular local romance writer. Jeanne Stein (2008 Writer of the Year), the author of the Anna Strong vampire bounty hunter chronicles, will moderate the discussion. Door prizes, including one free RMFW conference registration; books by WOTY nominees; and a one-on-one breakfast or lunch with an editor or agent at the conference will be drawn throughout the evening. Fred Goldstein - Low-Wage Capitalism: Colossus with Feet of Clay
Start: 7:30 pm
Colfax Avenue: Fred Goldstein is an activist and a contributing editor to Workers World newspaper. Goldstein will discuss and sign his new book Low-Wage Capitalism: Colossus with Feet of Clay: What the New Globalized, High-Tech Imperialism Means for the Class Struggle in the U.S. ($19.95 World View Forum). Through an examination of current corporate practices, historical evidence, and Marxist theories, this critique reveals the direct correlation between new technologies, globalization, and the dramatic drop in worker wages worldwide and proposes alternatives for dealing with the crisis.
