From sapling to adult the author gives us the sense of time that it takes to grow a redwood. We meet Native Americans, from generation to generation, then loggers and contemporary man as the tree continues its long life span. We learn about the scientific process that creates the tree as she conveys nature'ss miracle to us. Dramatically we witness the destruction wrought by man and are encouraged to do all that we can do to help the redwood forests. The author has a unique way of giving the tree a personality, becoming a voice for the redwoods. A portion of the profits will be donated to nonprofit environmental organizations.
