The Forbidden Wish (Hardcover)
The Forbidden Wish was a highly entertaining book. I’ve never read a retelling of Aladdin and never expected to read one quite like this! It’s told from the jinni’s (genie’s) view, which gave the book an extra twist to it. The world that Jessica Khoury has created in Parthenia is a page-turning story full of magic, scheming uncles, a posse of badass handmaidens, and a lopsided love triangle romance. Many fantasy/romance novels often seem gimmicky or cheesy, but this book never read that way. The romance that develops is one that I was cheering on from the outside, and the best part is the characters are so great by themselves, that they’re also great together. A shout out to Jessica Khoury for a beautiful and original fantasy/romance/retelling/payback story.— Zoe, TC Teen Advisory Board; Mountain Vista High School, Highlands Ranch, CO
