Author Visit Impact

The experience of bringing an author to visit a school is priceless.

"I just want to tell you that you are making a renewed impact on the community, and it's exciting for DENVER, not just for our school. Thank you!"

"I just wanted to give shoutout for the authors sponsored by the Tattered Cover. This is a great thing for schools. We had James Hannibal speak to all of our students. Kristen Gilligan, Tattered Cover owner, does all the work for you. That includes personalizing an order form to send home with your students and/or post on your website. The author was excellent with the kids, left time for questions, and of course autographed his books. A wonderful presentation."

"The great gust of wind you and your husband have brought to the Denver Metro area with all the improvements at the TC locations AND beyond are amazing! Thank you!"

---

"Thank you so much for making Jason Reynolds' author visit possible. He was amazing, and the kids are talking about reading and writing, which is the most important thing. I am so appreciative that we had a chance to host him. Our school rallied behind his books unlike anything I've ever seen, and he held our kids' attention better than any author (and lots of teachers) have ever done. ;) We are so grateful!"

"Wow!! What a performance Kwame Alexander puts on! Everything went perfectly, and Kwame and Randy were blown away by our red carpet Poetry Pep Rally greeting. They were literally floored - they could hear the kids screaming from outside the building. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU for making this incredible experience happen for our students. Yay for you and Yay for Tattered Cover!! Your ever faithful and forever  thankful fan and library servant."

---

"THANK YOU! Thank you again for a wonderful presentation. The students, teachers and staff are so impressed. We are getting a lot of positive feedback from students. The last class of 8th graders were captivated - wow!  Good on you! They can be a tough crowd because they feel they are too old for middle school (e.g., sitting on the floor) and want to move on to high school (much like Addie Belle!). You make author visits a joy!"

"WOW! Words cannot describe how lucky we all felt having Ed Vere visit our school. Not only is he an amazing author and illustrator, but he is truly a delightful person. The presentation far exceeded anything we might have anticipated—his rapport with the children was absolutely remarkable. Thank you, thank you, thank you—we are indeed humbled and grateful."

---

"Just a quick note to thank you for the opportunities we've had with Laurie Halse Anderson and Gene Luen Yang. Both are incredible presenters and authors. Our  students enjoyed them both immensely. Ms. Anderson just left and the enthusiasm and engagement the students showed was amazing. The Tattered Cover is a great asset to our community and I feel lucky to be part of the experiences you afford."

"James Hannibal was an amazing visiting author. He not only shared his love of writing and process but his back story really engaged so many students-especially the boys. I had many reluctant readers lined up for Lost Property Office and my staff could not say enough good things about how he really reinforced all the concepts they are teaching. Many student writers utilize his concepts and feel more confident in their own writing process. We love, love, loved him and his wonderful family!"

"A huge THANK YOU for coordinating Judd Winick's visit! He was such a phenomenal speaker, and on a personal level I really enjoyed meeting him and talking with him."

---

"We just had Melanie Crowder visit via the Tattered Cover Book Store and she was fantastic! Her presentation was great for grades 3-6. She was developmentally appropriate with time speaking and engaging them. She talked about the writing process, her background, what inspired her, and much more. She left time for questions and autographs. The kids loved it and so did the teachers! I highly recommend her and she's local!"

---

"Wow. I just have to say that Len Vlahos and Jessica Brody were amazing today. We couldn't be more thankful. In fact, I just ran into a junior boy in the hallway. It's the end of the day, and he was walking around with two buddies. I thanked him for coming this morning, and he replied, "Mr. Larson. It was awesome! I am just now telling these two guys about what they missed. Thank you!" :) That's the student summary (and mine) of the morning."

---

"Students were receptive, attentive, and asked good questions. A couple of evenings after Ellen’s visit the school principal was having parent meeting. A parent approached Mr. Lessard and said, “Who is Ellen Hopkins? My son never talks about school, but he came home from school the other day and  could not stop talking about her. Please have more events like that at school.” Ellen was so gracious. Thank you for coordinating her visit!"

---

"We also hosted an author via Tattered Cover. Paul Tobin, (Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies) visited our school. The visit was wonderful and high quality. He was a perfect match for our school and a pleasure to work with. Great Experience!"

---

"Jen Calonita's visit and presentation made a big impact here. Students (and teachers!) found her presentation engaging and fun. Her style and content was perfect for 4th and 5th grades. Thanks for providing this experience!"

"We also had James Hannibal visit. The kids loved him and the teachers liked his writing process so much we have him coming in the fall for an all-day writing workshop with 4th - 6th. Tattered Cover was great!"
